Worry-free motoring with the Motability Scheme this autumn

The new autumn price list from the Motability Scheme has been released with an updated range of around 1,600 cars available offering affordable, worry-free motoring to disabled people in the UK.

The range features around 530 cars with an Advance Payment under £500, including 230 makes and models to choose from with no Advance Payment at all, such as these popular choices:

  • Volkswagen Golf Life
  • Hyundai Ioniq SE Connect Hybrid
  • Renault Zoe Iconic BEV
  • Jeep Renegade Night Eagle II
  • Nissan Juke N-Connecta

The autumn price list features a range of low emission cars, automatics and popular crossover models from many manufacturers such as Fiat, Vauxhall, Citroen, Skoda and Ford. The Scheme’s goal is to enable its customers to find a model suitable for them at an affordable price.

Affordability and value

Over 80 cars on the price list are available to lease at less than the enhanced rate mobility allowance. This means that customers are free to spend the remaining money on other things. Options include the Fiat 500 Mild Hybrid Pop 3dr hatchback with a £2.75 weekly saving, and the Dacia Sandero Stepway 1.0 SCe Essential 5dr hatchback, with a saving of £7.25 per week.

Around 530 cars have an Advance Payment under £500, such as the Vauxhall Combo Life D Estate 1.5 Turbo D Energy 5dr available at £99 Advance Payment. The price list also includes 40 car options with automatic or semi-automatic transmission available with no Advance Payment, such as the Honda Jazz 1.5 i-MMD Hybrid SE 5dr eCVT hatchback and the Vauxhall Crossland X 1.2T Elite 5dr

Low emission options

This autumn a greater selection of lower-emission cars feature throughout the price list with over 350 available to lease with CO2 emissions of 100g/km or less. Options include the Renault Zoe i Iconic 5dr and the MG ZS Excite EV 5dr, both available at no Advance Payment.

Adaptations and Wheelchair Accessible Vehicles (WAVs)

There are more than 150 vehicle adaptations available at no extra cost, providing customers with solutions to help them access the car of their choice, travel more comfortably or store additional mobility equipment. Plus, with around 600 Wheelchair Accessible Vehicles (WAVs) to choose from, there are options available to suit a range of different disability and transport needs.

Matthew Hamilton-James, Interim CEO at Motability Operations commenting on the pricing update said: “We are pleased to offer around 530 cars with an Advance Payment under £500, including 230 cars with no Advance Payment.

“We are also increasing our range of low emission vehicles and investing to ensure that popular car model types, such as crossovers, are as affordable as possible despite many continued motoring industry challenges.

“These challenges, such as the COVID-19 pandemic and new emissions legislation are putting pressure on car manufacturers and, subsequently, the Scheme.

“During these ever-changing times we have worked hard to ensure that our customers can find a suitable car at an affordable price, and to provide them with support. This has included the option to collect the Good Condition Bonus early if in financial need, and providing every customer with a £50 insurance-based refund during lockdown.”

Recipients of the Enhanced Rate of the Mobility Component of Personal Independence Payment, Higher Rate Mobility Component of Disability Living Allowance, War Pensioners’ Mobility Supplement or Armed Forces Independence Payment can choose to use their weekly allowance to pay for the lease of a vehicle through the Motability Scheme.

There are three pricing options available for those looking to lease a car through the Motability Scheme:

  • Cars that cost less than your mobility allowance – these cars are available to lease at a fixed weekly amount for the whole of the agreement, meaning that the remainder of the allowance, including any increases, will be paid directly to the customer by the Department for Work and Pensions (DWP).
  • Cars that cost all of your mobility allowance – customers simply pay all of their weekly mobility allowance from the DWP, including any annual increases over the three-year lease, to lease their car through the Scheme.
  • Cars that cost all of your mobility allowance, plus an Advance Payment – customers can increase their choice of cars by paying a non-refundable payment upfront, known as the Advance Payment. This covers the difference between the allowance amount and the total cost of the lease.

Leasing a vehicle through the Motability Scheme is simple and affordable. The three-year lease package includes insurance for up to three named drivers, RAC breakdown assistance, vehicle servicing and maintenance, as well as tyre and windscreen repair and replacement.
