For the first time in 32-years, the World Down Syndrome Congress (WDSC) is returning to the UK, and it is set to make its mark on The SEC, Glasgow. From 25 – 27 July this is the perfect opportunity for young people and adults with Down’s syndrome to learn, celebrate and come together.

Understanding

Across three-days people with Down’s syndrome, their families and professionals can experience a once in a lifetime chance at broadening their knowledge or understanding of Down’s syndrome. With guest speakers, exhibitors and more this is one event that needs to be added to the calendar. Confirmed speakers include Fiona Dawson (member of South Ayrshire Swim Team and the GB Down Syndrome team), international expert, Brian Skotko and many more.

Featuring the top healthcare providers who work with children and adults with Down’s syndrome; a look at mental health issues facing people with Down’s syndrome; to discussions and questions plus much more, WDSC is back with a bang.

The events

For adults with Down’s syndrome, there is a day prior to the main congress for everyone to come together, meet, mingle and make friends before getting the chance to explore Glasgow, have lunch in a local museum and share the best experiences of the day. Dubbed The Gathering it is an exciting day to get involved with.

On 25 July there will be a Welcome Civic Reception where the Lord Provost of Glasgow (City Mayor) will be in attendance to welcome delegates. A short trip across the river to the Glasgow Science Centre will see everyone have the chance to mingle and drink in the spectacular Glasgow skyline at night.

Thursday 26 July will see everyone gather for a Family Scottish Night, which has, unfortunately, already sold out. Don’t fear! There are still tickets (costing £40) for the Gala Dinner on Friday 27 July. It’s time to look out the glad rags and prepare for a stunning reception at the Hilton Hotel for a formal sit down dinner, all before the Down Syndrome International Awards Ceremony.

After 32-years outside the UK the return of WDSC is extravagant, educational and welcomed. Don’t miss out on this excellent event. Grab your tickets here!
