Kit Harington donates $10,000 to Mencap fan-fundraiser

Game of Thrones star, Kit Harington has donated $10,000 (roughly £8,000) to a fan-created fundraiser for learning disability charity, Mencap.

He donated £6,183 plus £1545.75 Gift Aid to the Just Giving page, which saw the fundraiser reach its £50,000 target.

Having worked with Mencap since 2017, Kit Harington has personal ties to the charity as his cousin has a learning disability and works closely with Mencap as an ambassador.

Fan of Jon Snow, Steven Garner started the fundraiser in Kit’s name to thank the actor for all the hard work and dedication he put into his Game of Thrones character.

With donations already reaching £40,000, it was Kit’s final donation that took the page past its original target of £50,000.

The star released a statement through the charity which read: “To those of you who set this page up in my name and to those of you who contributed and left messages, please accept my deepest and most heartfelt thank you.

“This donations page lifted my heart and brought tears to my eyes, what a beautiful gift to receive… How generous of all of you.

“Mencap is truly a wonderful charity and the money given here will go to the most incredible cause.

“With love and respect from beyond the wall…

“Kit x”

At the time of writing the Just Giving page was still receiving donations.
