When Kate and Chris Rogers were looking for a new Wheelchair Accessible Vehicle (WAV) for their son Frank, they were determined to find a vehicle which enabled Frank to travel inclusively.
Adamant that the wheelchair space be exactly in line with the two back seats, Kate and Chris found the perfect WAV from specialists Brotherwood, in the form of the Volkswagen Caddy Morelife.
Perfect fit
Kate says: “Our very first WAV arrived today and we are all as excited as Frank looks! Chris did all the research and in the end we went for one from Brotherwood through the Motability Scheme.
“Brotherwood have been amazing throughout, answering all our questions, they brought one out to us to look at a while back and then delivered ours to us today (and all very safe and COVID-secure).”
The Caddy Morelife features a longer lowered floor, which puts the wheelchair user at the centre of the vehicle – perfect for Frank to keep an eye on proceedings, and travel as part of the family with a little brother also on the way.
Getting organised
“Frank’s still a bit too little to actually sit in his wheelchair in the car but we wanted to get organised,” explains Kate. “Plus, we like to take the chair and his walker out these days, add another buggy into the mix in a few months time and it meant we needed something bigger! And being able to wheel the chair in rather than lift it into the boot is pretty handy!”
Travelling in the centre of the vehicle also leaves more room for all of Frank’s kit to be easily stowed away in the back, making the Caddy Morelife the perfect car for all of the Rogers’ family days out.
“We were adamant that the wheelchair space be exactly in line with the two back seats, we wanted Frank to be able to sit directly next to his brother when the time comes. Doesn’t he look great?!”
