With the end of their current Motability car contract fast approaching, it was time for the Thompson family, from Devon, to find their next wheelchair accessible vehicle.
Needing a car that could cater for their family of six, Jackie and David set about finding the perfect accessible vehicle that would suit their busy family life and cater for their son Hamish’s wheelchair.
Jackie explains: “We owned a larger vehicle before but the wheelchair ramp was quite heavy and awkward to use. When the time came to renew we wanted a family car with lots of space but in a smaller vehicle … We didn’t ask for much!
“I made some enquiries with Motability and discovered the Volkswagen Vista. It seemed ideal so I gave Allied Mobility a call to find out more. When we spoke with our mobility consultant, Jon, we decided we wanted to see two different vehicles which wasn’t a problem, he brought both vehicles to our home.
“After seeing the Vista our minds were made up. It was definitely the one for us. There’s plenty of room inside and it’s a good bit smaller in height than our old car so it met all of our demands. It was great!”

Hamish has raised over £10,000 for Children in Need over the past six years. Having a wheelchair accessible car is vital for his independence.”
