Linda Hartley and Josie Pearson MBE
A host of celebrities, from stage, screen and sports, headed to Birmingham on 6 June to show their support for the Women in Spinal Cord Injury Awards.
The Botanical Gardens, Birmingham, hosted the very first Women in Spinal Cord Injury awards ceremony, a brand new event launched this year by the Spinal Injuries Association (SIA).
The Women in Spinal Cord Injury awards is the first event of this kind for the spinal cord injured community and recognises the outstanding women who contribute to the treatment and care of spinal cord injured people across the UK, as well as celebrating the achievements of spinal cord injured people and law professionals.
The ceremony was hosted by Gary Lineker, who along with his wife Danielle, has been a long term supporter of SIA. Danielle has said of her involvement “It is because of the help that my family received from SIA, that I am committed to supporting Women in Spinal Cord Injury, and joined the committee for the event”
Three shortlisted nominees, for each award category, were joined the celebrities and event sponsors at a champagne reception and three course meal. All 16 awards winners were announced throughout the evening by SIA’s celebrity guests, such as Joe McGann, Josie Pearson and Anna Turney, throughout the evening.
Joe McGann said of the evening “It was truly a pleasure to attend such an inspirational evening”.
