Merton CIL has been running Advice and Information sessions for disabled people in Merton. For anyone needing advice on issues like their finances, getting into employment or education, getting the most out of how they’re supported to live their life, or if they need advice in any other area, Merton CIL has been able to help.
Merton CIL advisor, Justyna, says: “Obviously with people concerned about welfare cuts, most people so far have needed advice on things like changes to Disability Living Allowance, but we can give advice and information in lots of other areas too.”
Thanks to funding from Merton Priory Homes via their Empowering Communities grant, Merton CIL has been able to run 12 Information and Advice sessions around Merton in February and March 2013 for disabled people and their carers.
Merton CIL’s advisor has been working with a number of fantastic partners including the Disability Employment, Welfare Benefits and Direct Payments & Financial Assessments Teams from London Borough of Merton, as well as Jobcentre Plus, Victim Support, Money Advice Service, Citizen’s Advice Bureau, Age UK, Sutton & District Training, Disability Law Service, ALFIE and Stephen Hammond MP, among others.
Lyla, manager of Merton CIL says: “Many of these partners have committed to attend Merton CIL’s Advice and Information surgeries with our own Advisor, so anyone coming to us for free advice will actually be getting two-for-one!”
