Keith Taylor cuts the ribbon and officially opens the sensory and activity room at Corporation Road

Essex care home residents are set to benefit from new sensory and activity room after fundraising campaign nets over £9,500.

The new facility at the Vibrance care home in Corporation Road ,Essex has been described as a ‘dream come true’ by the manager.

The sensory and activity room will provide residents with a stimulating environment, a personal space and an area of relaxation that will enable support staff to have one-to-one sessions with the residents.

It was made possible thanks to the efforts of Keith Taylor, who’s sister Lyndy lives at the care home. Keith instigated this 20 month fundraising campaign after approaching the manager, Patricia McDonagh, to see if there was any development that she felt would benefit the residents. Patricia saw the potential of a sensory and activity room for the advantage of the residents.

“It will be a great benefit to our residents with dementia and genuinely enhance their quality of life” said Patricia.

In addition to the generous donations from various family members who wanted to thank the care home for its outstanding work, Corporation Road also received donations from FSJ Charities and Essex Community Foundation.

Local children from Elm Green Preparatory School also got stuck in, raising a phenomenal £490.88 for the cause, after completing a project about Corporation Road.

Ilford based building firm, Fursee & Sons kindly volunteered their time for free to construct the building, which is now open for the residents to use.

“Personally I would like to say a big thank you to everybody who had any involvement in the fundraising that has enabled us to build the sensory and activity room – the benefit will be phenomenal for our residents,” said Patricia.

Although the sensory and activity room is now fully open for the residents, further funds still need to be raised for specialist equipment, which will enable the space to be used to its full potential.

If you would like to get involved in further fundraising for Corporation Road, please contact Patricia McDonagh on 01245 495010 for further information.
