#dontforget – First Minister’s support

Scotland’s First Minister Alex Salmond has sent through a message of support for our #dontforget Twitter campaign.Yesterday, we took to the micro blogging site to encourage users to tweet the message #dontforget, to ensure that the public, the media and policy makers kept disability in mind in the coming months. The Paralympic Games showed that the world is willing to open its mind when it comes to disability, and we want to make this a permanent change.

The First Minister believes that this is important too. He said: “The Paralympics have encouraged disabled people’s participation in sport and transformed views of disabled people’s lives – ultimately leading to a more inclusive society for everyone to live in. Through Independent Living, which is the shared long-term vision of the Scottish Government and its partners, disabled people should have the right to choice, control, freedom and dignity. Together with disabled people and their organisations, we will continue to work towards enabling equality of opportunity at home and work, in education and in the social and civic life of disabled people.”

With the Scottish Government’s support, we’re one step closer to creating a more inclusive Britain.
