AKW takes on another challenge

Independent living solutions provider AKW entered a team into the St Richard’s Hospice Corporate Challenge for the second year in a row, raising valuable funds for the Worcestershire based charity.

St Richard’s Hospice developed the annual challenge event at Top Barn Activity Centre, Holt Heath in Worcestershire, for businesses in the region to benefit from outdoor team building activities and raise money for the hospice at the same time. This year, seven teams took part in the Corporate Challenge, with AKW finishing in second place.

Joanna Marston, Marketing Manager from AKW, comments: “St Richard’s Hospice cares for patients and families in Worcestershire who are living with cancer and other life-threatening diseases. As a local business providing independent living solutions for the care sector, we wanted to add our support to such a great cause. We’re proud to have finished in second place and to have raised so much money again. Our staff were so impressed by the event last year that they were keen to take part again.”

The AKW team consisted of Ben Stanley, Louise Marshall, Nyall Monkton and Jon Imondi. They took part in a series of gruelling team building challenges throughout the day to secure the runners up spot, including scaling walls whilst wearing a blindfold, tackling high ropes carrying a tray of drinks, battling a Total Wipeout style course and paddling in a blindfolded canoe race.

Rachel Jones from St. Richard’s Hospice Foundation adds: “We’re delighted that AKW chose to enter our Corporate Challenge for the second year in a row. The team really pushed themselves to the limit to beat their third place position last year and had such great fun, while raising money for our hospice. The event has been so successful because it means businesses can benefit from team building activities, without the high expense of a corporate away day and raise money for a local charity at the same time.

“We have set ourselves a challenge of raising £6.1 million this year for our patients and families across Worcestershire. Each year we provide free care to those facing life-threatening illnesses and we can only do this thanks to the support of our local community.”
