SIA offers free membership

Basic RGBThe Spinal Injuries Association (SIA) is pleased to announce that FREE memberships will be offered to all spinal cord injured (SCI) people, their friends and family, and supporters from 1 April 2013.

The decision to move away from membership fees, £20 a year for a full membership and £200 for a life membership, was agreed by SIA’s Board of Trustees at a meeting on Saturday 16
February 2013. The Board of Trustees felt that membership to the charity should not have financial implications, and as such hope that free membership will encourage more members to join.

Jonathan Fogerty, SIA’s Chair of the Trustees, says of the change “”I am delighted that the changes to SIA membership are taking place. With effect from 1st April 2013, membership of SIA will be free. The changes are designed to increase the involvement of all people (with and without) spinal cord injury in the work of SIA and I sincerely hope it achieves this.”

Over the years the receipt of our bi-monthly magazine, forward, free of charge,  has become synonymous with SIA membership and has been seen as a major reason for joining the charity. Any new UK based members, will get to enjoy a year’s free subscription to forward. However, after the first year, and for all existing members, forward will now be available on a subscription basis.

An annual subscription to forward will cost just £20 a year. It is hoped that members, old and new, will be happy to pay this subscription fee, for which they will receive six copies of the SCI specific magazine a year, since it is equal to the old level of membership.

There are a whole host of benefits that come with your SIA membership, including 10% discount on all SIA publications, access to SIA advocacy services and access to SIA link scheme, giving even more reason to join!
