Wallops Wood Cottages (www.wallopswoodcottages.co.uk) are very excited to be participating in the second annual Disabled Access Day (www.disabledaccessday.com), an international awareness raising day sponsored by Euan’s Guide (www.euansguide.com), a listings and review website that helps disabled people and their families know which venues are truly accessible.
Visitors are invited to attend an open-morning on Saturday 12th March 10am-1pm at Wallops Wood Cottages here in the South Downs National Park. Katherine and Andrew Graham, co-owners of the cottages, who were delighted to win Gold in the ‘Access for All Tourism’ category and ‘Self-Catering Provider of the Year’ at The Beautiful South Awards 2015, will be on hand to show people the facilities in Teal, our M3, H1, V1 rated cottage.
Andrew said: “We converted an old farm building into five ground-floor, self-catering cottages with mobility, hearing and vision impaired guests in mind, but without compromising on the comfort or aesthetic appeal. We are delighted to have received these awards after only 18 months. ”
All five cottages have been individually rated M1, M2, M3, V1 and H1 under the National Accessible Scheme and staff undertook Welcome All training. There is a page on our website setting out our commitment to accessibility (www.wallopswoodcottages.co.uk/accessibility.html), and the Access Statement, which includes room plans and a list of equipment, is available to download and print (www.wallopswoodcottages.co.uk/images/Accessibility_Statement.pdf). There are also some excellent testimonials from guests on Trip Advisor and UpFront Review. However, we believe nothing beats seeing the cottages first hand.
We hope that anyone who may be interested in seeing these accessible cottages, personally or professionally, will be able to join us for a coffee. We look forward to explaining what adaptations that have been made for wheelchair access and showing what equipment we have available for guests to use. We are also hoping to confirm that Solent Mobility, who provide specialist equipment such as hoists and profiling beds, will also be on hand to introduce their services.
