Ombudsman improves customer accessibility with Sign Solutions

gn language interpreting company Sign Solutions to improve access to redress for its Deaf customers.

Ombudsman Services is a not-for-profit company which provides dispute resolution for the communications, energy, property and copyright licensing sectors; the Green Deal, Asset Based Finance Association (ABFA), reallymoving.com and Which? Trusted Traders.

The introduction of Sign Solutions’ InterpretersLive! service will enable Deaf people to communicate with the Ombudsman Services complaint handling team using British Sign Language (BSL) via video relay.

The new service will mean that Deaf customers have the same equal opportunities as those without hearing difficulties when trying to resolve complaints to phone or energy companies via Ombudsman Services.

Consumers can access the service via a link on the ‘meeting your needs’ page of the Ombudsman Services website, which customers can access on the homepage via an ‘accessibility’ button. Here, they are connected to a Sign Solutions interpreter who will relay the call directly with Ombudsman Services. The service is available to customers free of charge but they will need to have a computer with a webcam and a broadband connection. The service is available Monday to Friday 9am – 5pm and if an interpreter is unavailable, customers can leave their contact details in a video message and wait for an interpreter to contact them.
