New senior director for north west charity

AFG-20

Carey Bamber

A new Community Service Director (CSD) has been appointed by North West charity Alternative Futures Group (AFG) to lead activity in Wirral and Bootle, following the transfer of staff and people formerly supported by First Initiatives.

Carey Bamber is the latest senior appointment by the charity following the recent appointment of two colleagues to head up services in East Cheshire, Greater Manchester and Lancashire.

Every year, Alternative Futures Group supports more than 900 people with learning disabilities and mental health needs. This is achieved by providing around the clock support within the community, in peoples own homes or in one of eight specialist hospitals.

Carey Bamber has around 20 years’ experience advising a range of regional and national organisations including the Mental Health Act Commission, National Institute of Mental Health in England and the Department of Health. Most recently Carey was the Chair of Greater Manchester Right to Control trailblazer and as an associate with In Control, a national charity who are pioneers of self-directed support and work with organisations to transform their services and deliver personalisation.

Speaking about her new role as a Community Service Director at AFG Carey said:

“Personalisation is a real passion of mine and I’m delighted to be joining an organisation which has such a fantastic reputation in delivering a quality service for the people it supports.

“It’s a privilege to be heading up this new service which enables more people to experience our high level of person centred support backed up by the organisations strong values and principles.”

Neil Campbell, chief executive of AFG said:

“AFGs vision and values are focused on putting the people we support in control of their lives. Carey is the latest appointment to our senior management team who can help deliver our vision.

“We have a track record of putting people at the heart of everything we do and have just celebrated our 21st birthday. I’m pleased that we’ve now got a talented team in place to take the organisation forward at a time of great change in the sector.”
