Motability receives £1,000 from Sovereign Health Care Charitable Trust

motability logoNational disability charity Motability has received a £1,000 donation from the Sovereign Health Care Charitable Trust, which will be used to support disabled people in West Yorkshire.

Each year Motability fundraises for customers who need a charitable grant, such as seventy-year-old Joan, who has arthritis. Joan successfully applied for a grant towards a powered wheelchair hoist. She said: “The wheelchair hoist is so easy to use. All it takes is a push of a button to get my wheelchair in and out of the car. I’m so grateful for the grant I received from Motability; the money they raise and the donations they receive really do change peoples’ lives.”

“We recognise how important mobility is to a disabled person and how it can improve their quality of life, so we are delighted to support Motability’s work in West Yorkshire,” said Russ Piper, a trustee of the Charitable Trust and chief executive of Sovereign Health Care.

Gary Taylor, Trust Fundraiser for Motability, said: “We are very grateful to the Sovereign Health Care Charitable Trust for their generous donation. This will support disabled people in West Yorkshire who cannot afford the right car or adaptations for their needs, or help young disabled people with driving lessons.

Sovereign Health Care Charitable Trust, based in Bradford, supports charities, hospitals and community activities that enhance the health and wellbeing of people, especially those in West Yorkshire. The Trust is funded by Sovereign Health Care, one of the UK’s longest established providers of health care cash plans. The company doesn’t have shareholders; any surplus it makes is reinvested in the business or given by Gift Aid to the Charitable Trust.

Motability’s charitable work relies on voluntary income and aims to raise around £2.5 million each year to help customers who would otherwise be unable to afford the mobility solution they need. This income is raised through charitable trust and foundation donations, corporate support, individual fundraising and from trading activity.

The Motability Scheme is the UK’s leading car scheme for disabled people.  It provides affordable, convenient, trouble-free motoring to over 620,000 disabled customers and their families.  Powered wheelchairs and scooters can also be financed using the Motability Scheme. More information about the Motability Scheme can be obtained by telephoning 0845 456 4566 or by visiting www.motability.co.uk.
