More than 40 people who took part in a sponsored walk along the Wirral coastline have helped to raise £4,000 for national disability charity Motability.
Walkability took place on Saturday 1 March 2014 and fundraisers followed a 12-mile Wirral coastal path, passing Wallasey Beach, Leasowe Lighthouse and Meols Promenade. Participants included colleagues from business law firm DWF, leading UK insurer RSA and vehicle convertor specialist Lewis Reed Group.
Sarah Mir, Senior Solicitor at DWF, took part in the event along with more than fifteen of her colleagues from the law firm. She said: “We all enjoyed taking part in Walkability and the route offered fantastic views along the Wirral coastline.”
Dave Young, Partner of DWF, also added: “It’s great to know that our fundraising for Motability will help provide a lifeline to disabled people in the UK.”
Aine Canavan, Corporate Accounts Executive at Motability, said: “Following the success of Walkability last year we were delighted to return to the Wirral this year. Those taking part raised even more this year so we would like to thank everybody for helping to make Walkability 2014 so successful.”
She added: “The funds will be used to support disabled people who cannot afford the right car or adaptations for their needs, or to help disabled people aged 16-34 with driving lessons.”
Motability’s charitable work relies on voluntary income and aims to raise around £2.5 million each year to help customers who would otherwise be unable to afford the mobility solution they need. This income is raised through charitable trust and foundation donations, corporate support, individual fundraising and from trading activity.
Motability is the national charity that directs and oversees the Motability Scheme, the UK’s leading car scheme for disabled people. It provides affordable, convenient, trouble-free motoring to over 630,000 disabled customers and their families. Powered wheelchairs and scooters can also be leased using the Motability Scheme.
