Following on from a successful two days in London and Liverpool last year Spinal Injuries Association (SIA) are bringing back Going the Distance to the two cities. We will be gracing the streets of London on 17 September, before heading up to Liverpool on 24 September for both four and eight-mile routes.
In 2016, over 200 supporters signed up and volunteered to support those affected by spinal cord injury. The event will see participants cross London’s eight bridges or walk the waterfront of Liverpool as they show their support of the national charity for spinal cord injured people by gaining sponsorship for their efforts in walking, running or wheeling around the course.
Going the Distance is the first family-focused challenge event within the charity. The event encourages participants of varying ages and abilities to join in, making it extra special and an awesome achievement to those who complete with a unique event medal for every finisher.
This year each supporter and team will receive their own event souvenir map to navigate their way along the four or eight-mile route. Volunteer marshals will be at each mile to cheer on participants and complete their own top-secret task, set out by SIA’s volunteer coordinator, Jen.
The sponsorship money participants gain through taking part in the Going the Distance event will help the Spinal Injuries Association continue and develop their life-long services that support an injured person’s physical, emotional, psychological and social needs as they rebuild their life.
* You can register as a team of four adults for £40 or an individual from £4.50, kids under 10 years old go free! Volunteers can also register online with Jen at firstname.lastname@example.org. Registration includes entry to the event, a goody bag and a special event t-shirt. No minimum sponsorship required but participants are encouraged to raise as much money as they can for their efforts.
