Glyn gets what he wants this Christmas

ubu_christmasA Darlington man will be celebrating his first Christmas on his terms thanks to collaboration between the local authority and a revolutionary social care company.

ubu, based in North Yorkshire, is slowly converting all its settings to uStep which provides high quality single person apartments for vulnerable people including adults with learning disabilities and complex needs.

ubu provides personalized care for vulnerable adults in high quality accommodation focused on encouraging them to live independent lives.

In September it opened an eight apartment setting in Grange Road, Darlington,   and local man  Glyn Daly, 53, was the first to move in.  He cannot speak highly enough about the way uStep has changed his life.

Coming up to Christmas, there is no more important time to celebrate life and independent living. ubu helped Glyn through their uStep in Grange Road have his Christmas just as he wanted it.

Glyn says: “The last couple of months have been really exciting for me as I have finally made the step to living in my own apartment; my own place, with my own key, where I don’t have to share with others.

“Having previously lived in a residential home for 15 years, this will be the first time I have been able to plan how I want MY Christmas to be, instead of going along with other people’s plans.

“I can choose who I see and who I invite to my new home. I have already been out and bought my first Christmas tree and decorated it how I want it to look. I am really proud of my achievements to date and I am looking forward to the New Year, as I continue on the journey of the next great chapter in my life.

Glyn is getting the thing he wanted most this Christmas, thanks to the ubu team in Darlington.
