Disability Sports Coach engages disabled Londoners through their Community Club programme

Disability Sports Coach (DSC) are a charity that provide high quality sport and physical activity provision for disabled people through specialist coaching services, training and mentoring workshops and accessible community sessions through their Community Club programme.

Weekly multi-sport activities, events, competitions and club outings are accessible to all disabled people across London.

As DSC head into their fifth year of the Community Club programme, they aim to get more disabled people involved in sport by providing a range of activities and services.

Weekly Sports Clubs

The aim of the Community Club programme is to provide weekly inclusive sport and physical activity sessions that are accessible for all disabilities and impairments.

The members attending not only take part in a range of traditional and adapted sports, but they also have the opportunity to form friendships, be social and engage within their local community.

Members take part in a variety of sports and activities from basketball to dance, baseball to Boccia and everything in between.

Club Events

Three annual ClubGames sports events take place across to Community Club programme for club members, community groups and new individuals.

Participants from across the region come together for a day of sports activities and friendly competitions. Taking place during February half term and Easter break it’s the perfect term break activity.

In July 2019, over 20 different inclusive sports activities will be provided at DSC’s annual Summer Festival.

This memorable event will also have Paralympian attendance, performances and an awards ceremony. In 2018, participants enjoyed sports such as gymnastics, cycling, skateboarding, yoga and more.

The event is free to attend and open to anyone with a disability, their family, friends and carers.

Club Outings

Club members are given the opportunity to take part in regular club outings to discover new activities in their borough or participate in once in a lifetime sporting experiences.

Trips have included doing white water rafting at Lee Valley Olympic Park, cheering on England’s football team at Wembley and Ice Skating at their local leisure centre.

Lauren Mawdsley, Club Development Manager says: “The Community Club programme provides so many different opportunities for disabled people to be active in a way that suits them. Last year, we managed to engage with 3147 people through the programme, inspiring more disabled people to be regularly active”

All adapted and mainstream equipment used at DSC weekly sports sessions, events and competitions are supplied by Davies Sports.
