Win a German Christmas market break to Thuringia
Get away from it all during the festive season with the November/December issue’s fantastic Thuringia Christmas market competition
Thuringia, a beautiful region located in the eastern part of Germany, offers a wide variety of landscapes, historic castles and palaces, plus extraordinary architectural and cultural diversity – and a great range of BarrierFree leisure activities. Known as the Green Heart of Germany, Thuringia is also a major accessible holiday region.
Thuringia is responsible for many of the Christmas traditions we enjoy in the UK today. For example, Christmas decorations come from the area and Stollen, the delicious, traditional German Christmas cake, originated here too – and it’s home to a number of magical Christmas markets.
The town of Lauscha is home to the Lauscha Ball Market (held during two weekends in Advent), with the largest selection of glass Christmas tree decorations in Germany. In Erfurt, the cathedral creates an impressive, spiritual backdrop for the Christmas market, or you can head off to Weimar – the city of German classical culture – where, as with most Thuringian cities and towns, you will be able to do your Christmas shopping in an accessible environment.
This winter, you could be getting in on the action. We’ve teamed up with the German Tourist Board and Thuringia to give one lucky Enable reader (plus guest)
the chance to visit Erfurt, Thuringia’s capital, and visit an authentic Christmas market. The prize includes:
- Three nights for two people, from 18 to 21 December, at the Erfurt Hotel am Kaisersaal in a BarrierFree room
- Direct return flights to Frankfurt
- Rail tickets to Erfurt
Heading off for a weekend before Christmas, you’ll be able to visit the region’s magical Christmas markets, picking out gifts for family and friends and sampling a few local culinary delicacies along the way! Staying in Erfurt at the Hotel am Kaisersaal, most historic city centre highlights are within easy reach. You’ll have a fully accessible room making sure all your needs are catered for, leaving you free to explore this truly gorgeous corner of the country at its sparkling Christmassy best.
