A unique respite service for disabled people and their families will re-open its applications process on Wednesday 4 June.
Papworth Trust’s Cilthriew Kerry Farm near Newtown in Wales provides free respite holidays for families who desperately need a short break.
The project was featured on Channel 4’s The Secret Millions, where 3 families were invited to celebrity farmer Jimmy Doherty’s farm in Suffolk for a real break away from their everyday stresses and strains.
Thanks to £2 million of funding from the Big Lottery Fund, disability charity Papworth Trust was able to make the trial project a reality and buy and renovate Cilthriew Kerry Farm which opened its doors for the first time in October 2013.
During their stay, families have the chance to get involved with farm life, such as helping to look after the animals and growing fruit and vegetables. They stay in accessible holiday cottages and yurts, with experienced staff and family experts on hand if they need any extra support and guidance.
Cilthriew Kerry Farm’s qualified and experienced staff will also be running life coaching sessions and on hand for any advice or support necessary.
Natalie Webster from Kerry Farm, said: “We are looking forward to welcoming more families to Cilthriew Kerry Farm during 2015. At Papworth Trust we understand the impact disability can have. It can be hard to have quality, stress free time together as a family and I would urge people to get their applications in as quickly as possible.
“Our respite holidays are unique because they offer a chance for the whole family to have a supported break together, without the pressures of everyday life. Cilthriew Kerry Farm gives families the support they need to enjoy valuable family moments and learn new things.”
The next round of applications for a break at Cilthriew Kerry Farm in 2015 will open on Wednesday 4 June at midday. For the latest updates and to find out more about the farm, please go to: www.papworthtrust.org.uk/kerryfarm.
