IN ASSOCIATION WITH BERKSHIRE COLLEGE OF AGRICULTURE
A group of Berkshire College of Agriculture students share their take on learning at the college…
BCA is a big college where there are a lot of different courses you can do. Some of these include; Sport, Animal Management, Horse Care, Public Services, Foundation Studies, Hair and Beauty, Childcare and Art and Design. It is a fun place to attend!
In Foundation Learning, we get a chance to gain life experience for the real world. We go on trips and visits which gives us the chance to represent the college and to become more mature in public.
We also have work experience in our campus shop. The shop, which was set up and run by us, is busy and students can buy snacks and drinks which are affordable. We get to serve, stack shelves, clean, go to the wholesaler and use the till. This helps us to develop money management skills.
Some of the other things we do in Foundation include; working with animals, science, floristry, hospitality and cooking, art and design, creative media, horticulture and conservation. We get to work on and around the 400 acre estate, too, which is fun.
We also study something called Functional Skills. This is English, Maths and ICT. This helps us to improve our skills so that we can be more employable. We get support in lessons. Teachers and Support Assistants are friendly and help us if we get stuck. There is also support from Student Development Officers. They help with everyday problems like knowing which bus to get on at the end of the day.
As well as studying, we enjoy meeting new people and becoming more confident as the year goes on. At college you can make new friends and learn to work in a team.
