Queen Elizabeth’s Foundation for Disabled People’s new home and garden social enterprise venture has received a massive boost with the Berkeley Foundation donation of a new vehicle for QEF apprentices and trainees to use as they develop landscaping and maintenance services around the Surrey area.
Berkeley Homes (Southern) Ltd recently chose QEF as its designated charity, offering special support to QEF Vocational Services, which operates the QEF Home & Garden Services. This service involves trainees and apprentices tackling gardening, landscaping, home maintenance and decorating tasks in the local area. Work experience in these fields has always been an important part of QEF horticulture courses, but this new social enterprise venture has now been developed and expanded and the service is available for local people and businesses to use.
In addition to the new vehicle that it has provided, Berkeley Homes (Southern) Ltd will be providing QEF trainees with work experience placements in various roles and Berkeley Homes will be contracting QEF Home & Garden Services to provide landscaping and grounds maintenance at its head office and new show homes.
Chris Gilbert, managing director of Berkeley Homes (Southern) Ltd said: “QEF’s work in helping disabled people train for the workplace and learn new vocational skills is hugely important and we hope that this new vehicle will contribute to this goal. Our team has been involved in various exciting fundraising events and sponsored challenges to raise money for QEF and the company has matched their fundraising efforts. I would like to take this opportunity to congratulate them all. These fundraising initiatives highlight our commitment to invest in local community organisations like QEF.”
Jonathan Powell, QEF’s CEO added: “Can I just say a big thank you to Berkeley Homes and the Berkeley Foundation for raising funds for and donating this new vehicle as well as for the opportunities that are being offered to our trainees and apprentices in terms of work experience. The vehicle will be a great asset and the placement opportunities invaluable.”
